Save the Children works to strengthen the capacity of families to care for their children and supports the development of family-based alternative care options for children who cannot remain with their families. This case study relates to Save the Children's programme in Lebanon and how to provide psychosocial support to Maryam and her family to create a safe, accepting and protective home environment. A two pronged approach was used to ensure psycho-social support for her current caretakers. Efforts were made to address the child’s needs at both the school and at the family level. The goal was to build capacities of the adults in this child’s life, within and outside the home. After initial difficulties, a good rapport was established with Maryam's caretakers.
